Latte macchiato was originally intended for kids as a way to teach them to drink coffee. The word macchiato means stained or marked so a latte macchiato is steamed milk stained with espresso. It is often served layered with steamed milk, followed by espresso and finally a layer of foamed milk. Make sure the coffee is warmer than the milk to get the right layered effect.
